Monday letters: Verdict against bar sends needed message
What a joy for all those working to end drunk and drugged driving to have a jury award damages for the tragic death of Emma Longstreet. What an honor to have the Longstreets show their undying love for their daughter by advocating to hold bars liable for their actions when they serve intoxicated patrons. The sale of alcohol can be very profitable, and with that comes a responsibility to society that is well-established in the courts.
It is time for South Carolina to wake up and address the underlying issues that contributed to 335 drunk driving deaths 2013. It is deplorable that it took the death of a beloved 6-year -ld to open our eyes to the extent of these preventable tragedies.
