Letters: Indian-Americans often misunderstood
There are a lot of Indian-Americans living in Columbia, and a lot of misconceptions about our customs and culture.
Our diet isn’t all curried, and we aren’t all vegetarians; the foods you typically find in an Indian restaurant are not the daily foods cooked in an Indian household.
And although most Indians practice Hinduism, we also practice Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Buddhism. Most Hindus don’t eat beef because the cow is revered as the symbol of life and may never be killed.
Hindus also don’t believe in many gods. The truth is that Hindus are more monotheistic than they are polytheistic: There is only one supreme God, and all other forms of god are just manifestations of one supreme God.
