Letters: Spring Valley resolution seems backwards

The deputy in the Spring Valley incident has been terminated and is being investigated by the FBI, the teacher has been reassigned, and the assistant principal is on paid leave. The two students responsible for the disruption are free to return to school.

Sheriff Leon Lott has argued in the past that it is not necessary for SLED to investigate shootings by his officers since the Richland County Sheriff’s Department has the resources and expertise to handle them itself. But he can’t investigate a high school disturbance where the critical events are video documented? Curious.

It is obvious that at least one of the students should be expelled for the remainder of the year. What is the lesson students at Spring Valley are taking from the inaction of school officials? Where are the adults in this situation?
