Monday letters: Business owners need help up front

The Nov. 3 article “Female entrepreneurs changing S.C. business” suggested: “As you expand, consider adding an accountant, financial adviser or other key employees to lend a hand.”

As a bookkeeper who works with small-business owners, I believe that the time to consult an accountant is before you start your business. An accountant can help structure the business appropriately and set up an accounting system.

New business owners are understandably concerned about costs, but seeking professional advice up front will save time and money as well as simplify the process of filing a tax return.
