I lost my faith in Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. I have always voted for Lott, even though I am a Republican. However his knee-jerk reaction in the handling of a defiant, unruly student was just plain stupid.

What should the officer had done ? He did exactly what he should have, and what I would have done had I been in his place. There would have been no uproar if the student had been white, and everyone knows it.

There is a fear among white teachers when it comes to disciplining blacks. It is to the point that is difficult to teach because of this atmosphere in the classroom. Everyone also knows this. And the black student is back in the same classroom, and the officer is out of a job.
