Like Rev. Brad Smith and thousands of other residents, I am also a parent of Spring Valley graduates, and I concur with his accolades for the school (“The rest of the story,” Nov. 22”).

There are more than 2,000 students at Spring Valley High, led by an outstanding principal, Jeff Temoney, and 192 teachers, administrators and staff. The graduation rate is 84.3 percent and improving each year. The average SAT score is 1,518. There is great pride in these numbers.

The teachers work diligently every day preparing our students for the workforce, the military or college.

Throughout Richland District 2, the faculty and administrators do a great job, sometimes under difficult circumstances. Some schools have a higher percentage of students who live in poverty and are disadvantaged. There are many challenges in helping these individuals achieve. We are fortunate to have 693 nationally certified teachers in our district — the most in South Carolina and 12th highest in the nation. Our teachers are uniquely talented and prepared to help any child who cares about their education.

We try to do the best for our students. Our record will show that in Richland District 2 all children matter.
