Monday letters: To keep America great, educate all children

DETROIT FREE PRESS

Education should be the priority of the everyone. Teaching our children to be lifelong learners will enable them to get a good job and become productive citizens.

S.C. teacher pay is among the lowest in the nation. And the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Report Card on American Education ranked South Carolina last on educating low-income students.

Ensuring students a first-rate program for studies shouldn’t be a matter of money. It should be a matter of policy. We shouldn’t spend money on a broken system. We should invest and spend time on individual students’ academic achievement. We should involve parents in their children’s education, and even offer them opportunities to tutor reading and math for the teacher.

If we make educating our children a priority, we would leave a generation behind us that will keep America great.
