Monday letters: Spurrier was worth every penny

The Nov. 6 editorial about former USC Coach Steve Spurrier raised some interesting points (“USC shouldn’t pay Spurrier for work he’s not doing). But the reality is that Coach Spurrier earned any money USC pays him.

He raised the visibility of the program and the university more than any previous coach. USC and South Carolina benefited from his efforts with free publicity over and over.

He saved USC a significant amount of money by accepting smaller pay increases in favor of his assistant coaches. USC will have to pay much more to restore the Gamecocks to the level to which Coach Spurrier elevated our expectations.
