Monday letters: Nonprofits should explain their spending
Hundreds of millions of federal and state tax dollars have been granted to fatherhood, marriage and family initiatives throughout America, including here in South Carolina.
But how is this money being spent to help empower indigent, disenfranchised men, women and children and strengthen families?
These non-profit organizations should be positioned to implement immediate, focused, steadfast, serious and deliberate actions deep within the targeted communities that are in dire need of help. Theories and strategies are useless without solid, driven, tireless, selfless effort.
A message to all fatherhood, marriage and families initiatives whose pockets are running over with taxpayer dollars: Come out of hiding. Inform the general public as to exactly how much money your organization received from federal, state and private institutions for initiatives that are supposed to strengthen fathers, mothers and their families. Be completely honest and transparent as to how you plan to spend the money to help the individuals and families you vowed to help. Get busy actually doing the work that you have been paid to do. You have no excuse not to do so.
