Monday letters: Spring Valley High School still needs to explain incident
The Nov. 15 article “More support deputy in Spring Valley incident” implies that half of South Carolinians approve of brute force in dealing with people — or should I say, with certain people. Is that the way they would expect to be treated for a minor nonviolent offense?
Letter writers have made some harsh and unkind statements about the student (and her family) without presenting any evidence. We have not heard a full disclosure from school district officials stating exactly what happened in the classroom leading up to the incident; I think we deserve one.
Further, the teacher and assistant administrator should have been fired along with the school resource officer. To think that two educators could not resolve a very common, minor infringement of school rules! Whatever happened to writing a referral to the principal to be handled in a civil way at the end of class?
