Letters: Sanders speaks to our hopes, not fears

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders speaks to voters in Columbia.
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders speaks to voters in Columbia. Special to the State

Bernie Sanders has the most comprehensive plan for criminal justice reform of any presidential candidate. He reminds us that we must respect the rights of people of color and put an end to racial profiling and police misconduct targeted at innocent young black men. He is committed to investing in community policing so that officers are working in neighborhoods and communities before trouble arises.

He also passionately defends the need for pay equity for women and is committed to investing $5.5 billion in a youth jobs program and making tuition free at public colleges to ensure that everyone who studies hard is able to go to college. As a proud product of Laurens County, I am especially thrilled that he is committed to ensuring that all communities, including those in rural America, can thrive and produce the next generation of leaders.

We must support candidates who speak not to our fears but to our brightest hopes for a better America. In the spirit of securing a brighter future for our sons and daughters, I support Bernie Sanders.
