Letters: Not all Americans are ‘God’s people’

I am very familiar with 2 Chronicles 7:14, which Joyce Zimmerman referenced in her Dec. 10 letter, “There’s an obvious fix for U.S. problems.” I believe the verse to be true; however, I must put emphasis on “My people.” Being a U.S. citizen does not make you “God’s people.” When the prophet wrote of God’s promise to heal the land, “God’s people” were the children of Abraham. Later, all who accepted Jesus as their savior and lord also became God’s people.

Even those who do charitable works and help the poor are not God’s people unless they have accepted Jesus Christ.
