Letters: State employee holidays excessive
Why did our Legislature feel it necessary to give government employees three days paid time off for Christmas every year?
Kids have to give up vacation days to make up for missed class time due to the floods, and in years past they have done so due to other inclement weather. It wasn’t so long ago when both state and private employees were getting furloughed and offered early retirements, and others were being down-sized.
But government employees need three paid days off for Christmas? Bringing the grand total to 13 paid holidays a year … almost three weeks. In addition to their “earned” leave.
Perhaps the budget cuts wouldn’t have been necessary if our legislators paid more attention to the small details that make up the big picture.
