Letters: Krauthammer offers criticism, no solutions

Charles Krauthammer is irate (again) that certain nations are defying the United States, or rather President Obama (“Defy America, pay no price,” Jan. 10).

Imagine that: Russia, China and Iran are not doing what we tell them to do, or else they are doing what we tell them not to do. Such disobedience and disrespect.

Iran test-fires a missile contrary to U.N. resolutions, and it is meddling in the Middle East. “China is challenging the status quo in the South China Sea.” Russia annexed Crimea and has troops in eastern Ukraine.

Imagine that. As the world’s unofficial policeman, what should we do to enforce our rules?

Krauthammer criticizes Obama, but he offers no alternatives. Economic sanctions against Russia seem to be ineffective, so far.

What’s left? War?

If the United States is going to war with these countries, I suggest that we start with Russia, because it has the most nuclear weapons; then, we go to war with China, which has the next most, followed by Iran, which still is developing them.

Once we have disposed of these countries, no nation that survives would defy us.
