Monday letters: Thanks for helping Salvation Army help others

I’d like to express our deepest appreciation to everyone who helped make this past Christmas a wonderful success. The Midlands faced many challenges in 2015, but we pulled together to meet the needs for so many of our neighbors.

Thanks to our generous community, The Salvation Army of the Midlands raised $387,210 with our kettle campaign and assisted 3,610 children from 1,596 families with Christmas presents and food.

Everyone who gave at the red kettle, adopted an angel, contributed at the Stuff-A-Bus events or gave toys made it happen. We couldn’t help those in need without the support of individuals, businesses and other organizations.

This season 2,601 volunteers provided 5,698 volunteer hours. Their dedicated support helped make the holidays bright for children throughout the Midlands. It was encouraging to see our community come together.

There is still much to be done. A regular yearly contribution will help us meet the needs of children and families every day through our children’s after-school reading program, food baskets, meals for the homeless, rental/utility assistance, clothing and disaster services. We look forward to working with you in 2016.
