Letters: Don’t make us pick Trump vs. Clinton
It is an absolute certainty that success of presidencies isn’t determined by meaningless campaign promises and snappy stump rhetoric. History has always judged presidents by how they handled unforeseeable, sometimes unthinkable, events.
As this silly-season finally begins to wind down and voting begins, it will become our job to select who we think will respond with a clear head, guts, compassion, insight — and whatever else it takes.
Donald Trump is still holding the hot ticket. But somehow, I don’t find much comfort in his ill-mannered appeal to our worst instincts, the snaggle-toothed rally cheers or endorsements by Sarah Palin, Jakie Knotts, et al.
I don’t know what to do, but I don’t intend on having to explain to St. Peter why I voted for either Trump or Hillary Clinton. If they’re what’s left standing in November, this democracy is in one heap of trouble.
