Letters: Voters must demand ethics reform
Corruption in government is a huge problem at all levels — local, state and national. It involves people using political office for personal gain as well as politicians accepting bribes in exchange for favorable laws and loopholes. Officeholders or candidates are also victims of extortion (“if you don’t vote my way, I will fund your opponent and run attack ads against you”).
The solution is for voters, regardless of political party, to demand reform. What would such reform look like? For specific ideas go to the Represent.Us or Citizen.org websites. In South Carolina, we need an ethics law with teeth. Vote only for candidates who support reform.
