Letters: Can Trump’s positives outweigh negatives?
The United States is in multiple crises. The three branches of the government are failures. We are losing at home and abroad. Partisanship must be set aside, along with bloc voting based on perceived benefits (the Latino vote, the African-American vote, women, unemployed and others). There is some justification for this polarization, but what matters more is that the whole country rises up together.
Donald Trump hit a chord, but his style stands in the way of his attempt to reside in the White House. As with others before him, I discount many of the campaign promises. If he fulfills his major promises, the country will thrive. He is a street fighter and a success in his business. Will this positive experience help him steer our unsteady ship to fair havens? I wonder.
Other candidates don’t have much more to offer. Hold your nose and vote.
