Letters: Presidential candidates’ anti-immigrant rhetoric is disturbingly familiar

AP

Approximately 80 years ago a small group of fanatical “Christians” started convincing a nation that Jews, Poles, Soviets, the mentally ill and others were subhuman. Therefore, it was proper to exterminate them. Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were almost successful.

Once again, we hear awful rhetoric being used against others (Mexicans and Muslins for now). This time it is by candidates for U.S. president.

I find these attacks disgusting and abhorrent. How can civilized people not condemn such words, let alone vote for someone who speaks them?

I have had the good fortune to live in two other countries and travel and work with people around the world. I learned we have so much in common with our neighbors, all loving our families and wanting to live in peace, no matter our nationality, race or religion.

Diversity makes a nation stronger. We should welcome refugees looking for a better life.

Please let us all keep this in mind when we vote.
