Letters: Restaurant employees know the rules on tips

California Dreaming restaurant

The class-action lawsuit against California Dreaming is ridiculous. I worked there for almost a decade, and it is understood at restaurants that your income depends on tips, but success requires a team effort: You tip out the service bartenders and other people who are working behind the scenes to help you get a larger tip.

I received a letter asking me to participate in this lawsuit; I will not.

I’ve worked with hundreds if not a thousand employees at California Dreaming, and no one had a problem with how people were paid. If you work where you can make more money than at most restaurants in the area, you don’t sue the restaurant for more, especially when lawyers will receive most of the money you are awarded. Anyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.
