Monday letters: Taboo is changing to stay in business
Immediately following the Feb. 5 court order denying Taboo an injunction against the city’s efforts to close our business, we purged our DVDs, magazines, books and “anatomically correct sexual devices.” We removed the words “Sexually Oriented Business” and “Must be 18 to enter” from the doors and windows. Taboo Adult Superstore was changed to Taboo “the couples” Superstore.
As the store manage, I can tell you that Taboo is continuing as a general retail business with the adult-themed message that it has built since 2011. The October floods destroyed our business, but we spent more than $20,000 restoring the building, so closing the doors is not an option. We are business-minded people and are trying to make a profit and keep our employees employed.
Taboo is no longer operating a sexually oriented business according to the city’s zoning ordinances, and our appeals are still pending.
