Monday letters: Professionals at Dorn VA Medical Center deserve thanks

Many have heard horror stories about a Veterans Administration hospital. I want to recognize the good work the VA does and thank Columbia’s Dorn VA Medical Center.

Our father was admitted through the emergency room, spent several days in acute care, then moved to Warriors Walk Hospice Care. He was treated with respect and tenderness from the time he entered. The staff was polite, courteous and skillful. The physician was clear as to what was happening and patiently put our fears to rest.

The decision to move to Hospice was made with help from an exceptional team that explained our options and addressed our concerns. We were considered partners. The nurses and aides were intelligent, compassionate and professional. At no time was our father’s dignity demeaned or comfort reduced. Everyone offered a sincere “Thank you for your service.”

We are humbled by the care and compassion shown, not only to our father but to us. The peaceful environment allowed our father’s passing to be one of grace and harmony.

These dedicated health-care providers have our sincere thanks and gratitude.
