Letters: Republicans created Trump followers

Welcome to the new Republicans: They are a direct result of complacency on the part of the Grand Old Party.

For years, party leaders were able to tell their followers (and non-followers) what to think, what to feel, what to get incensed about and what is right and wrong. They delivered their message through vitriol, screams, innuendo, self-righteousness and lies. They did such a good job of vilifying the opposition that compromise is no longer in their vocabulary.

Unfortunately, they are now finding out that the dissatisfaction and hate that they have fomented has taken a life of its own. They are no longer in control. You can’t pretend to calm an angry crowd with facts when un-facts were used to rile them up. Good luck.

I hope the Democrats come out to vote during the general election in considerably higher numbers than have been evident during the primaries.
