Monday letters: Richland Library, Columbia Art Museum deserve recognition

In her March 8 article, “Columbia is more awesome than you think. Here’s why,” Erin Shaw makes brief mention of this fact: “the Columbia Museum of Art and The Richland County Public Library were just named 2016 finalists for a national service medal from The National Medal for Museum and Library Service. California and South Carolina are the only states to have a 2016 finalist named among both museums and libraries and Columbia is the only city with two finalists.”

The collaboration, innovation and success of both of these institutions deserves much more attention. Karen Brosius and Melanie Huggins as well as their talented staffs deserve more obvious acclaim for this achievement. Their efforts benefit all of the citizens of our county and our city.

If their creative and cooperative spirit could be emulated by our government officials, think of the possibilities.
