Letters: USC women created evening of magic
What an evening of magic and joy it was for those privileged to watch the Gamecocks romp their way to a victory over Kansas State in the second round of the NCAA women’s tournament. There we were, working folks, students, high school athletes and news people from all over, reveling in the joy of watching these incredible women carve out a win. Coach Dawn Staley and her staff are to be commended for mentoring these young women and producing one of the finest teams ever at South Carolina.
The players ran into the stands to shake hands and greet the fans who had cheered them on and given each a well-deserved standing ovation when they came out of the game the last time. No air of entitlement, no misbehavior, just good college athletes led by an incredible coach. And for one night, the rest of us were able to put aside the daily grind and worries of life to witness the game of a lifetime.
Thank you to the coach and to each player, who gave us much to celebrate.
