Letters: Three ways to reduce SC traffic deaths

jmonk@thestate.com

The Legislature can easily reduce deaths in our state if lawmakers would not bow to the lobbying groups.

First, ban hand-held phones while driving. This is a big distraction and causes a lot of accidents and deaths.

Second, require motorcycle riders to wear helmets. Helmets do not hinder a rider, since there are all types of helmets.

Third, raise the fine from $25 to $35 for not wearing a seat belt. Drivers don’t think twice if they get caught. And $25 does not deter a passenger either.
