South Carolina has real problems. Those who drive, look for a job or have children in school know that roads desperately need repairs, good jobs are scarce and public education is underfunded.

Faced with these real problems, Sen. Lee Bright and others in the Legislature are tackling the imaginary problem of transgender citizens using the wrong restroom.

In spite of the fact that there has never been a documented problem, state time is being used to try to solve this imaginary problem, through a proposal that has already cost jobs in North Carolina.

The sponsors believe South Carolinians are so stupid as to have our attention diverted from the real problems. The sad thing is that they may be right.
