Letters: Anti-abortion bills distract voters from Legislature’s failures

AP

I find it puzzling that so many legislatures — dominated by non-medically licensed men — feel it is their right to control the reproductive system of every woman. They use “pro-life” as their catchphrase, but I submit they are “pro-birth,” as I never see them willing to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, a stable environment or basic health care to those children they’ve insisted be born.

As one cynic said, “If men had to have babies, abortion would be a sacrament!”

I think the Legislature chose to pass the “pain-capable unborn child protection act” to make voters forget that it has done absolutely nothing of any substance about the infrastructure problems, the problems with the schools, ethics reform or anything else.

It provides a convenient smokescreen for the lack of meaningful legislation on truly serious issues.
