Letters: Tone down fireworks at Columbia Fireflies stadium

After the Columbia Fireflies’ first game, one neighbor complained that the fireworks display “sounds like artillery fire.” I agree.

Can you imagine the reaction of the veterans who live directly across the street from the ballpark in a home for disabled veterans? They do not need any more stress.

For a month prior to the first ballgame, I tried by phone, email and regular mail to reach Mayor Steve Benjamin about the fireworks, with negligible results. Please, let’s have concern for these valuable veterans and the neighbors alike. I ask that laser displays be used rather than fireworks for all events at the ballpark.
