Letters: Highway-safety laws protect others

cslate@thesunnews.com

Laws that require seat belts and motorcycle helmets and ban talking on cell phones while driving are designed to protect those of us who share the road with the Jim Clarks of the world (“Keep the government out of my driving choices,” April 11).

We can fight against these sorts of laws as soon as we give up having civil servants who run to our rescue and save our lives when we or others are injured or killed because they wouldn’t give up their cellphone or wear their seat belts or helmets.

People who use their cellphones while they’re driving always say, “I don’t have time to wait until I get to my destination.” Well, I don’t have time to be dead.
