Letters: Do SC prisons need more guards?

With the recent violence at Perry Correctional Institute, I am concerned that there are not enough correctional officers to control the inmate population.

Why were prisoners able to take an officer hostage? Will there be any staff added to prevent this from happening again? If nothing changes, this is bound to happen again.

Officials need to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of the correctional officers who serve this state.
