Letters: Reconstruction symposium a learning experience
For a number of South Carolinians, and for this Connecticut Yankee, the recent symposium on Reconstruction at Ladson Presbyterian Church and the State Museum was of great importance.
History is always with us, and it was with great satisfaction that I was able to address the concluding gathering with evidence from my research that President Woodrow Wilson, who spent his teenage years here in Columbia, denied opportunities to African-American people through his role as president.
The mixed audience of national historians agreed with my conclusions, which reflects the value of holding such national-level conferences in Columbia.
