Letters: Welcome to the season of the carnival barker

AP

The carnival barkers are clearly at work.

Hillary Clinton has a plan for fixing every problem confronting the country, from abortion to the Zika virus. How many times can you say, “I have a plan for …”? Meanwhile, Donald Trump has no plans. His response to questions about any problem is always, “Trust me … it’s going to be great!”

We saw during the debates that candidates won’t answer questions in a forthright matter; instead, they use them to pivot to the topic they want to talk about. And heaven forbid that a candidate ever (operative word “ever”) admit that something is troubling or potentially problematic.

Super PAC’s fill the airwaves with misinformation, disinformation, half-truths, innuendos … anything to make one candidate look inept, foolish, unethical. After watching the debates and TV ads over the past 11 months, one could easily conclude that none of these people is qualified to be president.

Each major political party would have us believe that it, and it alone, has the answer to every major problem facing this country. Is that not the height of arrogance?

Regardless of who wins the presidential election, the process can best be described as one of over-promising and under-delivering.

I’ll be so glad when Wednesday, Nov. 9, arrives.
