Letters: Duncan is public servant we need
In October 2012, my son Richard was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He passed away in August of 2014 at the age of 9.
While we knew that Richard’s life would be cut short, we made it a mission to make his stay here as great as it could be. Brian Duncan was a key reason we succeeded. Brian came out of nowhere and put together one of the most memorable days of Richard’s journey.
The day started with Brian handing me the keys to a brand-new Corvette convertible. Richard had never ridden in a Corvette, and he was so excited. We headed out to McEntire Air National Guard Base, where we received a police escort to the main headquarters and a welcome by the entire squadron standing at attention.
We were greeted by senior leadership and whisked away for a tour of the base. Richard sat in an F-16, manned the fire truck as it sprayed water hundreds of feet into the air and then was taken to base operations where the pilots christened Richard a Swamp Fox forever and told him to keep fighting the good fight.
I don’t know much about politics or public policy, but I can tell that Brian Duncan has a servant’s heart, and our community, our state and our nation could use many more like him. That’s why I’ll be voting for him on June 14 in the Lexington County Council District 5 Republican primary.
