I keep reading news articles and letters about One Columbia and all the good things it does for Columbia, as if it were under attack.

Funny, I don’t recall anyone actually questioning the organization’s mission or the good delivered by it. I do, however, recall our mayor getting upsest and the group’s defenders calling out those who wanted an audit of the taxpayer funds the organization receives and its spending reviewed.

I support the arts in Columbia and believe they enhance all our lives, but I do not understand this pushback, which actually makes it appear that there is something to hide. We have enough questions about accountability of our penny transportation tax and the behavior of elected officials without organizations and their supporters trying to avoid audits and government in the sunshine. If you take our money, you should expect to be audited and to have your expenditures made public.
