Letters: Don’t waste money on bathroom litigation
In its pursuit of a more perfect union, the U.S. government wants to ensure that transgender individuals are allowed to use the bathroom of their choice. The litigation this will likely create will no doubt cost millions of dollars.
Perhaps the union would edge a little closer to perfection if that money was used for other purposes. How many homeless individuals and families could be moved off the street and into permanent housing with that money? Perhaps it could be used to improve public schools.
Whether men identify as women or vice versa, common sense dictates that they will require a private bathroom. So long as this need is met, it’s hard to imagine how requiring transgender individuals to use bathrooms consistent with the sex listed on their birth certificate violates their rights.
