Letters: New SC license plates encourage illegal drivers

South Carolina’s license plates used to have the month the tag expired on one side and the year on the other.

This clearly showed if the registration had expired. Now the sticker for renewed registration shows the month and year (which is very small) on the same side.

I like to know if the registration has expired because these vehicles most likely have no insurance, and I want to keep my distance from them.

I have to carry uninsured motorist coverage because of these vehicles. There are so many of these illegal vehicles on the road that it makes me feel foolish to pay my taxes and insurance.

The new license stickers will only encourage more of these illegal vehicles. Something needs to be done about this.
