Letters: Congress can help save environment

Sen Lindsey Graham
Sen Lindsey Graham AP

As a college student, I have the privilege to learn about the environment through hands-on work. My future children and grandchildren may not have the same opportunities. The danger is not future budget cuts, the natural deterioration of earth’s systems or a stall in technological advancements, but decisions that our generation continues to make to boost carbon dioxide emissions and promote global climate change.

As ocean levels rise and impede on our coastal homes and properties, coastal species such as the least tern and Wilson’s plover face devastation. Too many other species and habitats are in danger of rising temperatures and the intensification of storms and natural disasters. Let’s save the living world for future South Carolinians: Thank U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham for his proposed amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill, and encourage Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Joe Wilson to join the effort too.
