Letters: After Hiroshima visit, curtail US nukes

President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima and his message for a world free of nuclear weapons was a hopeful sign. However, the president has approved the modernization of existing nuclear weapons that may make their use more likely.

The United States needs leaders who understand that nuclear weapons demand the “start of our own moral awakening.”

I hope my senators, Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, will speak out in support of President Obama’s visit. I would also urge them to curtail the modernization funding and to eliminate nuclear weapons.
