Letters: Who is accountable for the trains?

Traffic backed up in Columbia can be seen through the wheels of a train that’s blocking city streets — again.

On May 25, I sat at the railroad crossing at Rosewood Drive and Assembly Street for almost 45 minutes. Since I had plenty of time, I called the city ombudsman’s office and was politely told the city could not do anything. I was referred to the Department of Transportation and was politely told that the state could not do anything. I was referred to CSX, and I thought to myself, what good will that do? Since I had nowhere to go, I called CSX and was told that someone would look into it. I requested that the person looking into it to call me. I never heard back from anyone. Surprised?

I am sure that I am not the only driver in Columbia who is frustrated by these trains constantly holding up traffic. The long delays have caused me to miss appointments, be late for work and just totally wasted valuable time.

Someone should be held accountable other than the fox in the chicken coop.
