Letters: ‘Latino’ is a culture, not a race
In his May 26 letter, “Trayvon Martin was no victim,” P.O. Brown repeats a common misconception when he says the media “made George Zimmerman a white man instead of a Latino.” Why can’t people get it through their heads that “Latino” refers to a culture, not a race?
I lived more than 40 years in Arizona, which has a large Latino population, and among my closest friends were a mother and her two children, all blue-eyed blonds, whose surname was Navarro.
Costa Rica, Uruguay and probably Argentina have a higher percentage of whites than this country.
Many erudite liberals called the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz marriage “interracial.” To my knowledge, it was not.
As hot a topic as race and culture are today, people should get their facts straight before sounding off about it.
