Letters: Better world starts with each of us
What happened in Orlando is horrible. Most people are incensed, as we should be. But we should also be incensed by domestic violence, both physical and verbal, bullying, malicious gossiping, unkind words and deeds. All of these can kill people’s spirit, crush their self-esteem and break their hearts. Some folks even take their own lives because of the pain.
Why must we inflict pain on others? Why can’t we just be kind and caring to all people no matter their race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic standing? The only way things can change is if we start with ourselves. If we all made a pact with ourselves to be a kind and caring person to every person whose path we cross, we would have a much happier and more peaceful world. To paraphrase Ghandi, we must be the change we wish to see in the world.
