Letters: Columbia airport employee went above and beyond
xI always take pride in the beauty and cleanliness of Columbia Metropolitan Airport when I fly into Columbia, but recently I was reminded of the wonderful employees who enhance the atmosphere of the facility. After my flight, I picked up my checked bag and drove home, only to realize that my carry-on bag was missing. I knew I had not left it on the plane because I checked it at the gate and clearly remembered picking it up after arriving.
I called the airport and explained my situation to “Clive” at the information desk, knowing it was a useless effort since the bag had been sitting somewhere for nearly an hour. Clive told me he would take a look around the baggage area and outside and call me back in 10 minutes. He called back and asked a question about the contents and then told me he had my bag in his hands.
I picked it up the next day and spoke to the supervisor, who said he wasn’t allowed to give out employees’ names.
I cannot reward Clive for his performance, but I can hope that others in similar situations will call the airport and let one of the many dedicated employees help them.
