Letters: Hawk killer’s hunting license should be suspended longer
xThe penalty for intentional trespassing to hunt, fish or trap in South Carolina is a fine and loss of hunting privileges for one year.
If I go onto USC Trustee Charles Williams’ plantation to hunt without permission, I will pay a fine and lose my hunting license for one year regardless of whether I kill a single animal.
Is this the same as killing 31 birds of prey? I feel sure Mr. Williams would see to it that I received the maximum penalty for trying to shoot one of his quail.
Shouldn’t the hunters in South Carolina know that your position and status don’t give you a pass on your hunting privileges? A one-year suspension of hunting rights is a slap on the wrist and not much of a deterrent to other wealthy landowners.
