Little did I know in 1967 when I met my new neighbor, Jim Kane, that the next 30 years would be so exciting. James F. Kane, dean of the USC School of Business, had a dream that I vicariously enjoyed. Recently, through the efforts of the Business Partnership Foundation and the Darla Moore School of Business, the school’s welcome center was renamed the James F. Kane Welcome Center in his memory.

In raising the funds to build the “twin towers school of business” and hiring the inspired and dedicated faculty with the drive and imagination to develop innovative programs, Dr. Kane molded the school into one of the leading business institutions in the country. It has always been my contention that Dr. Kane did more for South Carolina during his more than 30 years as dean than any other individual accomplished during that same period. Through the multitude of business graduates who became leaders in politics, business and their communities, his legacy continues today.
