Letters: Republicans can still stop Trump

Two-thirds of S.C. Republicans won’t be represented at the Republican National Convention, since all 50 of our delegates are voting for someone only 35 percent chose in our open primary.

Normally, candidates adhere to the party platform, are not embroiled in lawsuits and are people many are honored to share a stage with. Sadly, our presumptive nominee is inept and inane. The best reason people give for supporting him is that he’s the lesser of two evils and he’ll appoint conservative justices. I want a better choice. The delegates can give us one.

Under normal circumstances, they confirm the people’s choice, but that is not their true function. They are to be a check; they are free to vote their conscience, but our delegates don’t want to make waves. Anyone who is as alarmed as I am about Trump should join Free the Delegates to learn more, contact our delegates and kindly request they join others who are refusing to approve an unqualified man. Let them know that 65 percent of us are behind them. Please do this immediately. Time is short.
