Letters: Job 1: Protect our law enforcers

I was shocked that a cookout was held recently to pay for the hospital expenses for a local law enforcement officer who was injured during a traffic stop. This is crazy. Maybe I was naive, but I assumed that if an officer is injured while on duty, his insurance would pay to make him whole.

We as citizens should make sure that our law enforcement officers are taken care of when they are injured while protecting the public. Millions of dollars have been spent on compensating families for wrongful actions by our police departments, and that is appropriate. But our public officials should recognize that we have a problem and put aside the appropriate funds so our law enforcers will have enough manpower, working equipment, income and insurance to make sure that they are protected while on duty.
