Letters: Protesters, not firefighter, were the ones who broke law

The protesters in Columbia on July 10 were exercising their constitutional right, and so was Columbia fire Capt. Jimmy Morris. However, the protesters were allowed to illegally shut down a public thoroughfare with no ramifications, but Capt. Morris was fired. How is that for a double standard?

No one should be allowed to shut down a public road. Protesters always scream about their rights, but what about the people’s rights to travel the roads they block? A blockade like that should never be tolerated, and if the police won’t clear it, then the public should be allowed to clear it.
