Letters: Here’s why women would make better legislators
I’m beginning to think the reason the Legislature has done nothing on gun safety, the health of our citizens and the education of our children is that these are all perceived as women’s issues. Just think about it. Each one affects women and their families directly. The GOP (and male) majority prefers to bloviate ad infinitum about women’s reproductive health, which bathroom children must use and protecting their precious guns from bankruptcy. What a spineless bunch.
It’s puzzling why our Legislature can’t expand Medicaid so 248,000 more S.C. citizens are eligible for preventive and on-going health care. Do lawmakers not realize that South Carolina ranks 42nd nationally in general health of her citizens? Do these men have their heads buried in the sand? Are they distracted by their perception of South Carolina’s glorified past?
Many people are tired of this lack of concern for the health, education and safety of our families. But it will be up to the voters, especially women, to go to the polls and make our collective voices heard.
If you want a change, S.C. women need to look out for the interest of their families by electing more women to the Legislature. Let’s lock arms and make it happen.
