Letters: Richland 1 school board needs to focus on ethics
The Richland District 1 School Board desperately needs an ethics advisory committee to begin the process of restoring the trust of school administrators and the public. The board also needs an impartial, independent investigation of its actions; responsible school board members should never disrespect ethical boundaries. They must remove any personal biases and make decisions based solely on the needs of our students. They set a public example through which the students learn prudent choices, wise governance and the belief that the adults who have oversight of their schools have the students’ success in mind.
Although the board has subcommittees to address ethical issues, there is no process for dealing with potential ethics violations. Self-policing doesn’t work.
